Friday, February 2 was Community Day at Mayo Demonstration School! Students spent the day with their school families, which are multi-grade groups.
Friday, February 2 was Community Day at Mayo Demonstration School! Students spent the day with their school families, which are multi-grade groups. During this Community Day, students learned about many cultures by visiting a pop-up museum, trying snacks from other countries, playing the Mexican bingo-style game Lotería, and learning dances from around the world!
Families are an important tradition at Mayo, and it is many students favorite thing about the school. Students meet with their family groups three times a week to build relationships and learn life skills. Younger students form friendships with older peers, and because students are assigned a new family each year, they develop a large network of relationships that will last them for years to come!
Every few months, families spend the whole day together for Community Day, each with a different theme. The Mayo team also hosts quarterly family parties which involved 100s of families coming to Mayo.
