Austin Breckenridge named Mayo Support Professional of the Year

Austin Breckenridge is the 2025-2026 Mayo Demonstration School Support Professional of the Year!

Austin joined the Mayo team as the principal's secretary in 2024. We asked him a few questions to learn more about him and his time in Tulsa Public Schools.

What led you to a career in education?

Before I started working at Mayo, I was a school parent and served on the Mayo Foundation Board. During that time, I built strong relationships with the staff, students, and families, and I really grew to love the school community. The more involved I became, the more I felt called to do more and support the school in a hands-on way, which ultimately led me to want to be part of the work happening inside the school each day.

What is your favorite thing about your job?

One of my favorite things about being at Mayo is the strong sense of community the students build with one another. Because of the way students learn and interact at Mayo, they form meaningful, long-lasting relationships across all grade levels. This is especially evident through our Family classes. Family is a social-emotional learning time that students attend three days a week for 30 minutes, where mixed-age groups from pre-K through 5th grade come together to focus on values like respect, integrity, belonging, and connection. Through these experiences, our older students naturally step into mentorship roles, building supportive relationships with our younger students and strengthening the entire school community.

What is one thing you are passionate about outside of work?

Outside of work, my family means everything to me. I treasure the everyday moments with my spouse and daughter just as much as the special ones, and I love spending time together simply being present with one another. I also value time with our extended family, where laughter, connection, and shared experiences remind me of how important family is in my life. Those moments are where I feel most at home.

Is there anything else you would like to share?

Mayo truly feels like home. It’s a place where students are known by name, relationships matter, and families feel welcomed and valued. There’s a genuine sense of care here and you can see it in how students and staff support one another. Mayo is a community where kids are encouraged to be themselves, grow with confidence, and feel a strong sense of belonging every day.
