Welcome to the Armstrong Social Studies Homepage!
The Social Studies teachers for the Armstrong Area this year are Ms. Embry, Ms. Paulison, and Mrs. Jimenez.
During the first quarter we learned about Jamestown and read aloud the book Blood on the River by Eliza Carbone. It is about a young boy named Samuel Collier who is a page to John Smith on the voyage from England to the New World.
We have just completed our unit on Jamestown and we are moving on to learn about pre-war Colonial America by studying the 3 different Colonial regions. We will be learning about the different systems of government, different religious values and how those shaped the culture of the colonies, the different economies and resources and systems of labor. This is an exploratory unit integrating non-fiction reading and writing.
We are also planning a Colonial Day in the Spring, details to come.
